Contemporary Kitchen Design
“This was a fun project to work on,” Gary Case, owner of Signature Kitchens, Additions & Baths, said. “The house had not been substantially changed since the 70’s, when it was built, so we enjoyed the chance to bring the kitchen to contemporary standards.”
Silver Spring Maryland Kitchen Remodel better space design
We were so excited to remodel our kitchen because the old one felt very closed off from the rest of the house and the kitchen wasn’t set up very efficiently,” the homeowner, Sonny Mongkol, said. “Some people want to make their kitchens bigger – we didn’t have to increase space so much as remove a partition wall separating a breakfast nook. We just had to utilize the floor space properly.” The original space design was separately enclosed breakfast nook, kitchen and family room. We removed all the walls opening up almost 200 square of space and transformed the look and feel of all three rooms.
Kitchen Design Process
“They had a good idea of the kitchen design remodel goals they wanted to accomplish” Joe Gelletich, the designer designer working on the project, said. “Since the space was wide, they had been thinking of putting a kitchen island in, but we realized it actually cut the space up again, so I showed them how a peninsula in the center of the kitchen could achieve the same goal.”
A large part of the kitchen design remodeling process is devoted to the selection of materials and appliances. “The design process was quite easy,” Mrs. Mongkol said. “Everything we needed and everything we wanted to see was right there in Signature’s showroom: everything from kitchen cabinets to counter tops even to the floor itself.”
Kitchen Remodel Materials & Features
This Silver Spring kitchen remodel features Medallion cabinetry, a Sonoma door, cherry wood with an espresso finish, granite counter tops chosen for consistency in appearance, and a General Electric range with a chimney-style hood. All these materials were put to use in creating a contemporary kitchen design remodel that fulfilled the homeowners’ needs and wants. “Our kitchen has undergone such a big transformation from its 70’s past,” Mr. Mongkol said. “We love it!”
